When children’s dreams come true … Ice cream for breakfast – in the form of Frozen drink. Creamy frozen yogurt – refined with bananas, walnuts and honey – a very special breakfast favorite. And a healthy one too.
Make frozen yogurt yourself
I love yogurt – almost a little more than chocolate. Pure or refined with a few berries . Mix with a dollop of cream cheese or a hint of cinnamon. Before sport, after work or at a movie – I am happy to have a spoon in any situation. Especially when the first rays of sunshine flash through the white clouds again and I can enjoy it frozen as frozen yoghurt – refined with a dollop of chocolate sauce and a few strawberries. And some cake crumbs. And a few chocolate chips …
Admittedly – even in winter it has to be a cup of frozen yoghurt every now and then. It’s just stupid that most of the shops close during the cold days. Is that why you forego it? No way! The only solution: Do it yourself – it can’t be that difficult: Take a creamy yoghurt, a pinch of sugar and an ice cream machine . And you have a wonderfully fresh yoghurt creation.
Basic recipe – frozen yogurt from the ice cream machine
- lime juice
That’s all you need for delicious frozen yoghurt!
Frozen yogurt is easy to make. Mix all ingredients together, place in an ice cream maker and enjoy after half an hour . The original recipe works without cream. If you like, you can mix your variant with cream or cream cheese or refine it with lemon or vanilla.
Put all the ingredients in a bowl.
Mix the mixture with the hand mixer until the sugar has completely dissolved.
Put the ice cream mass in the ice cream maker and let it freeze for at least 30 minutes.
Garnish with toppings of your choice.
Frozen yogurt without an ice cream maker
Don’t have an ice machine at home? No problem. Frozen yogurt from the freezer does not taste any worse, it just takes a little longer. Simply fill the yoghurt mixture into an airtight container. And let it freeze for at least four hours . Important: Take out of the freezer and stir once an hour. This will make your frozen yoghurt extra creamy.
Lightning-frozen yogurt made from frozen fruits
Frozen yogurt in just five minutes? Yeah sure! All you need are frozen fruit, yogurt or quark and a mixer. Place the yogurt or quark in the freezer for at least 30 minutes before preparing. Put in the blender with the fruits and stir to a creamy mass. A little tip: as long as necessary, as little as possible. Mix the yoghurt and fruit together until the fruit and yoghurt have just combined to form a creamy mass.
Creamy stirred yogurt, Greek yogurt or quark?
The star among the ingredients: yogurt. But which variety is the right one? Creamy stirred yogurt or puncture hardener? Greek yogurt or cottage cheese? The most common variant is the one with creamy, stirred yogurt. Unlike solid yogurt, creamy, stirred yogurt matures in the tank and becomes particularly velvety. Do you only have solid yogurt at home? Works too. Simply stir and freeze long enough before preparation.
My personal favorite: Greek yogurt. Why? Because it is so nice and creamy, thick and intense in taste. In Greece it is traditionally made from sheep’s milk, today it is mostly made from cow’s milk. During a special draining process, the yogurt loses almost 70 percent of its liquid components (whey and water), which means that more milk is added – four liters of milk to one liter of Greek yogurt. For comparison: one liter of conventional yogurt is made from one liter of milk.
And what about curd? Necessarily! The great thing: Frozen quark is no different in the production of frozen yogurt. Mix the quark with the sugar until a creamy, place in an ice cream maker, and enjoy after half an hour.
Vegan frozen yogurt
Frozen soy yogurt – not only tastes good, it is also extremely healthy. And the vegan alternative for all those who want to do without animal products. Like the classic frozen yogurt, the vegan version with sugar (alternatively agave syrup or maple syrup) is stirred until creamy and placed in an ice cream maker or in the freezer compartment.
Frozen yogurt without sugar
Reduced-fat is all well and good, but what about sugar? To be honest, sugar is almost essential for a creamy frozen yogurt. Because frozen yogurt only gets its velvety consistency with the addition of sugar. If you want to avoid sugar, it is best to replace it with maple syrup or honey. The result: yogurt sorbet – less creamy, but wonderfully fresh.
Figure flatterer or calorie bomb?
Ice cream always works. And frozen yogurt especially – after all, it’s very easy. And healthy. And low in calories. But, is this really the truth? Not quite. Depending on the variety, the calorie content of frozen yogurt is 80 to 125 kcal per scoop. For comparison: a scoop of strawberry ice cream has approx. 52 kcal, a scoop of frozen yogurt ice cream has approx. 54 kcal and a scoop of chocolate ice cream have approx. 86 kcal. Frozen yogurt is usually lower in fat than conventional ice cream, but it often contains much more sugar – sometimes up to 20 percent (see above). Except for the high-calorie toppings.
Toppings and sauces
A few almonds here, a few biscuit crumbs there, and a lukewarm caramel sauce on top – only the numerous toppings make frozen yogurt an irresistible delicacy. Particularly popular: seasonal fruits – strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries, for example. But also apricots and cherries. Or nectarines and peaches. Also delicious: almonds, walnuts, and hazelnuts. Granola bars and trail mix. And of course the sweet classics: oreo biscuits, children’s chocolate, yogurt, M & Ms, gummy bears, brownie pieces, and cheesecake crumbs.
